Inspirations - Mags & TV

Fashion

Style.com
I like to view the New York, Paris and Milan fashion shows on Style.com, where I can cruise the slide show at my own pace and clip images out to my lookbook. Run by the same people who make W and Vogue, of course this site is a winner.

New York Times Style
I try to review the NYT Style content daily. Cathy Horyn's dry commentary is always worth reading (or listening to, as the case may be).

Magazines - Fashion

I subscribe to many print magazines to spur my imagination and keep abreast of developing trends. When I see a design I love, even if it's just a seam or a line, I tear that page out for my archive. When I'm looking for inspiration later, these pages are a goldmine, as you'll notice on my scrapbook pages. I never tear up a knitting or sewing mag. I prefer to archive them for posterity and frequent reference.

VogueAmazon link
I let my subscription to Vogue lapse once and will never make that mistake again.

WAmazon link
I used to read W for the fashion industry news and gossip. But the artful photography makes it awfully hard to see the fashion, so I let my subscription lapse, for wont of a clear photo.

ElleAmazon link
Crisp photography and a feminine attitude make this magazine stand out. The Elle web site is also a lot of fun: view complete collections and file your faves in your lookbook!

Magazines - Knitting

Interweave KnitsAmazon link
This knitting magazine has grown nicely in the past ten years to become a powerful influence in the hand knitting and publishing industry.

KnitScene
Unfortunately it's not possible to subscribe to this magazine, you'll just have to pounce at the newsstand. The projects are easy to make and right in trend. What else did you expect from our friends at Interweave?

Knit.1Amazon link
This magazine is published by Vogue Knitting and like Knitscene is aimed at a younger, trendier knitter with less experience.

KnittingAmazon link
This British publication often has cute patterns, including one of my own! The Diva Halter pattern found in the DomiKNITrix book is available in the Summer 2007 issue.

Vogue KnittingAmazon link
Vogue Knitting regularly features designs from well known fashion and knitwear designers. Vogue Knitting never fails to inspire me.

InKnitters
This unusual publication offers both hand and machine knitting information. Though I find many of the designs to be overly crafty, the articles often make it worth reading. I wish the publication schedule were a bit more predictable.

Magazines - Sewing

ThreadsAmazon link
A great sewing resource that provides an imaginative approach to the craft of sewing. I love their design challenges and technique articles.

BurdaAmazon link Monthly Pattern Magazine
This sewing resource is an incredible value: chock full of sewing patterns every month for only $7. Yes, the patterns need to be traced onto paper, but the designs are more stylish than most packaged patterns you'll find in fabric stores. I sometimes use a pattern piecemeal as a basis for a knitting design.
